SUMMARY:Mochitsuki! Mochi-Pounding Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Japanese New Year with Kagami Kai as they present the colorful and exciting New Year tradition of pounding mochi (delectably sweet rice cakes) along with music\, dance\, and costumes. Beforehand\, pre-K families can join the stART Tour and hear storytelling in the galleries. Afterward\, stick around and listen to members of Kagami Kai talk about mochi pounding's Shinto roots in the Japan galleries\, and make an art project. Artist Shioh Kato\, a Kagami Kai member\, will also commemorate the ceremony and the New Year with a calligraphy demonstration of the letter for "snake".SCHEDULE11:00 am–11:45 am: stART Tour for 3–6 year olds\, meet at Information Desk (ground floor)12:00 noon-1:00 pm: Mochi-Pounding Ceremony\, Samsung Hall (2nd floor)1:00 pm–4:00 pm: Art Activity\, Education Studios (ground floor)2:00 pm–3:00 pm: Calligraphy Demonstration with Shioh Kato\, Education Studios (ground floor)See more event details > Lead funding for the Asian Art Museum's Family Fun Days is provided by ScholarShare.
