AsiaAlive: Korean Lacquer Master Demonstration

Jung Myung-che, who is Master Lacquer Artist (najeon-jang) Intangible Cultural Property No. 14 of Seoul, demonstrates the past and future of the art form, especially shell-inlay lacquer wares (najeon chilgi). Originating in Tang dynasty China and spreading as far as Japan, najeon developed into a major art form of Korea, where it remains popular today.

This program is supported by the Korea Design and Craft Foundation, one of the subsidiaries of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which advances the promotion and development of Korean crafts industry.
