MATCHA: Phantoms Arise!
Phantoms Arise! is a call to be inspired, to tap into San Francisco's undercurrent of creative nightlife and celebrate Phantoms of Asia. From poetry to tattoos, contemporary art to drag performances, the night is spun together through the new sounds of DJ-in-residence Vin Sol. The evening begins with the premiere of the San Francisco episode of Gypsy Gentleman, a web-based documentary series exploring the history and art of tattoos-filmed at the museum and inspired by the collection. The night continues with Litquake, as poets channel the spiritual and supernatural forces of Phantoms of Asia with a progressive poetry crawl through the galleries, featuring poets Justin Chin and Paul Hoover, among others. Then MATCHA takes it up a notch with a special Trannyshack awe-inspiring performance, exploding into a dance party that's bound to be wild after this evening of unbridled creative expression.
Lead funding for the Asian Art Museum's MATCHA Program is provided by Wells Fargo. Additional support provided by Douglas A. Tilden, Elizabeth Warner, and Drs. Jane and Sanford Tom. Lead funding for the Asian Art Museum's Education and Public Programs is provided by the Bank of America Foundation.
