Bathing Lions

Lions awaiting cleaning

Recently, this pair of monumental bronze Japanese lions was cleaned in preparation for display.  The lions are a recent gift to the museum.  This coming winter they will be repaired and pedestals constructed.  Look for them outside the museum in May 2013.

One bronze lion arriving at the bath-house.

One of the pair before being unpacked.

These guys are heavy. The bronze lions are also rarer than their stone cousins.

Looks like he enjoys a shower.

Unlike cats, these lions don’t seem to mind their bath.

Its really interesting to see how the conservationists prepare for the objects to be moved into the museum. It looks like the are using the forklift to move the lions when they are on the wooden palates, but i could be wrong.I wonder what the conservationist is spraying the bronze lions with.

Japanese lions look awesome. They remind me of gargoyles monsters with a little bit of dragon, devil, bulldog similarities. i cant wait too visit them either and take a picture with those mut lions.
